Abstract
Cooperatives have great potential through which they can sustainably contribute to rural development in Africa. Due to various factors (cultural, legal, financial etc.), this potential is underdeveloped. As a result, cooperatives are not yet able to boost rural development in Africa. Many solutions, such as securing capital or providing appropriate legal framework, can be considered to promote cooperatives. The aim must be to turn them into key actors in the positive transformation of African rural communities.
